Project Background
When I left Bangladesh, my niece was only 10 days old. For the past 10 months, I have missed her more than anything or anyone else! I remember how much fun it was to watch my nephew grow up at that age, and how spending time together helped create an unbreakable bond between us. This time, as I cannot be with her, my sister sent me my niece’s pictures and videos and few stories of what she did that day over messaging apps, but she was never comfortable posting her baby’s picture on social media for privacy and security concerns. So, the number of pictures was scarce, and they would get lost in between hundreds of other conversations. I still used to go through our chat history to find them when I felt homesick. Once my niece grew old enough to understand what a smartphone is, I tried to make video calls every day to talk to her. Unfortunately, most of the days she would either be cranky or too sleepy to pay attention during the small window of our conversation. I feared that she will not recognize me if she saw me face to face for the first time! I could not bear the idea of being in that position. Eventually, my niece started to learn to stand, holding pieces of furniture, according to her mother, and was even about to start walking! I got major FOMO (fear of missing out) and just could not wait any longer. I traveled home at the first chance I got. I felt like this is the right time to embed myself in her childhood memories so that she can bond with me better even when I am far. Now that I am here with her, I feel like this was the best decision I made in 2020!
I consider myself lucky for being able to travel safely during pandemic. But many people unfortunately cannot. Many cannot meet their family even though they’re nearby, due to pandemic or some other kind of reason. There are parents working overseas, grandparents in a different city, aunties, uncles, and cousins living on the other side of the town. All of them are missing out on the most beautiful time of a child’s life!
Identifying the problem
HOW MIGHT WE ENSURE SECURITY AND BUILD A STRONG FAMILY CONNECTION ON THE SAME PLATFORM?
82%
Parents have discomfort with privacy issue in traditional platforms
93%
Family members are concerned about making a connection with the child at a young age
Defining Goals
Enabling parents to decide which people to invite into their child's life.
Enabling family and friends to bond with the little one through time and space.
Research
USER RESEARCH
User research was conducted through survey and interviews to understand the problem areas of current options and expectations from such platforms. Below you can see some of the research findings.
PERSONA ANALYSIS
Personas are fictional characters, which we create based upon our research to represent the different user types that might similarly use our platform/product. Creating personas helps us to understand our users’ needs, experiences, behaviors, and goals. Personas make the design task at hand less complex, they guide our ideation processes, and they can help us to achieve the goal of creating a good user experience for our target user group. Following 2 personas have been created with survey and interview done for ‘Treasure Chest’.

UX THEME
UX Theme is the user experience brief that captures the value my project will bring to users. The brief is a great way to let all members of the collaborative team know what I am trying to accomplish, and the experience I want users to have. Later we can refer the brief to guide us in the design decisions.

MOODBOARD
Moodboard is an arrangement of images, materials, pieces of text, etc. intended to evoke or project a particular style or concept. When creating the moodboard for Tresure Chest, I studied similar features and platforms and collected a number of design elements I would like to reflect on my own platform.
JOURNEY MAPPING & USER FLOW
A journey map is a visualization of the process that a person goes through in order to accomplish a goal. I have created several journey maps keeping different outcomes for my users in mind, this process helped me to decide the types of features I should include in my platform. Below are few examples.
Design
ANNOTATED WIREFRAMES
The first step of the designing process is creating wireframe. It is the skeletal representation of the platform that doesn't contain any image, but only indicates the placement of different elements. The goal of wireframe annotations is to make understanding how and why something on the screen should work as clear as possible to anyone viewing the wireframes.
